Arden Cho Talks ‘Teen Wolf,’ Beauty Must-Haves and More
Arden Cho, one of the female power houses behind MTV’s hit showTeen Wolf, graced us with her photobooth prowess on set in LA recently – and this multi-talented actress is not someone you want to go head-to-head with in a selfie competition. The 29-year-old actress may be best known for playing Kira Yukimura in MTV’s supernatural teen drama (which premieres it’s 5th season tonight), but she’s also a singer and a model – with quite the popular YouTube page to boot.
We sat down with Arden to talk to her about her career, her love of beauty, and her past experience with pageant makeup – and everything she’s learned along the way.
StyleCaster:So,Teen Wolfis filled with superpowers and mythology, if you could have one power in real life, what would it be?
Arden Cho:If I could have one power in real life, I think I might have to choose teleportation. I think it would be really helpful, especially in LA.
What are some of your go-to brands today?
For makeup and stuff, I really love Clé de Peau concealer. I like Koh Gen Do foundation. I love all of La Mer beauty products – the lotions, the toners, everything. Love all of that.
You have a big background in beauty, on top of your Clinique campaign, you were part of the Miss Korea pageant. What do you think is the biggest difference between pageant makeup and makeup you wear everyday?
Well, pageant makeup is definitely different than makeup you wear everyday. It’s heavy. It’s similar to red carpet makeup. You just do a lot of makeup just so you’re prepared for all the lights, and just whatever angle you’re caught in– it’s just a lot heavier. Lots of, I feel like, a lot of contouring – I don’t know. But yeah, it’s different. I think in everyday, I’m pretty simple, I keep it on the lighter side.

Has the experience you’ve had on Teen Wolf, in the makeup chair and hair chair, teach you any tricks?
Yes, working on Teen Wolf I’ve learned lots of beauty tricks. I actually learned how to fill in my brows and I learned how to contour a little bit. And I’ve gotten pretty good at my eye makeup.
Are there any beauty trends you regret trying?
Oh gosh. Beauty trends I regret trying… When I was in high school, I attempted to shape my brows but kept plucking and plucking and plucking and pretty much had like a line across my eyebrows. It was really bad. Oh yeah, it was pretty bad.
You’re an actress and a singer, who are some of the other industry role models or celebrities you find especially inspiring?
Oh my goodness, there are so many. I love Taylor Swift, huge fan. Lady Gaga is so cool. Actresses – I love Jennifer Lawrence, I think she’s amazing. Shailene Woodley. There are so many. And then of course, like, ones that I grew up in love with like Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman. Oh my god the list is like neverending. I have to stop, otherwise it’ll just go on forever.

Between Instagram and Twitter, what’s your favorite?
I’m going to have to say Instagram, only because I’ve been using it more often.
What type of Instagram picture will definitely score you a like?
So, on Instagram I’m always convinced that a picture of Chewy [Ed note: Arden’s adorable dog] is the cutest and it should get a billion likes, but I actually don’t get as many likes for pictures of Chewy but I get a ton for selfies. Selfies always win. Even though I always feels so awkward posting selfies, because they always look the same!
What are your three favorite beauty products of all time?
Overall favorite beauty product, I don’t even know if people would consider this a beauty product but… chapstick! I love Blistex chapstick. I’m like addicted, it’s so weird. And then my favorite mascara is… I think it’s Covergirl. But it’s the orange fat bottle and it has like ‘Lashblast’ on it. That’s my favorite, favorite mascara. And one of my favorite eyeliners is, I believe, it’s either L’Oreal or Revlon. But I just get it at the drugstore, I’m not fancy. But yeah, those three are my favorite.
And finally, what are you secretly an expert at?
I’m actually really good at painting nails and I love to paint my nails. I do nails for like all my girlfriends and I’m actually pretty good at it. It’s really weird. I guess that can be my job in the future.
