Do we need a day of family, love and loyalty?
This week, clearly the most absurd news from our non-boring officials was the idea to make recently (in 2008) an established holiday - the Day of Family, Love and Loyalty, celebrated on July 8 - an official day off. Having nothing against the summer holidays, which can be used for short incursions to the sea without holidays, we were once again convinced that our deputies completely lacked not only imagination, but also a connection with reality. What is ridiculous in this triumph, at first glance, harmless? We analyze all the points.
Valentine's Day in Russian
Based on the “ingenious” idea of the initiator of this proposal - a member of the LDPR faction Alexei Didenko, the Day of Family, Love and Loyalty should become a kind of “cultural import substitution” and turn into an analogue of “imposed by the West” on February 14. Growing up on the MTV clips and colorful valentines to the modern generation of 25-35-year-olds, who are now acquiring families, it will be difficult to explain the charm of this national date, and those who already have families will find it just a regular day off to a country cottage on a long weekend. .
No additional content will be borne on this holiday, and what it is generally needed for is not clear, but the moment for its "invention" was chosen amusing: just after the release of the "rainbow law" about same-sex marriages in the US and news about the discrimination of transgender people. The president instructed to strengthen the family, here are the deputies and practice on the topic, but with the inherent crowning Russian negligence: even the logo of the holiday was copied from the French organization La Manif Pour Tous, who opposes homosexual marriages and did not allow the United Russia party to use it.
Large family remained only in the picture
The author of the initiative, Didenko, sincerely hopes that the Russians will celebrate the new holiday with their loved ones and that it will reduce the number of divorces in the country. He did not explain exactly how, but apparently, he believes that depicting a large family on the logo is enough to inspire society to multiply more actively. About such things as emancipation, which occurs, if not through public initiatives, then through the influence of a wide information field, to which women have access today, and the growing crisis in the country, the deputy is most likely unknown. From here and its logic moves in an absurd direction: let's show a woman a picture of a family, sing about love and loyalty, and she will definitely want to have a child. No matter how it is, Mr. Didenko: look around and you will understand that the modern generation of women is too educated and had time to look at the world at least a little so that it is so easy to turn from an image, holiday or council into an incubator and lose the opportunity to make a career, travel and live like I want to.
Large families in demographic policy are always a result of the development of two opposing principles: the religious policy of the church (as an example, Muslim countries) or active social support of the state (Iceland, Israel and New Zealand are the only leaders in the fertility rating of developed countries). And the latter is not at all in the yelling about the tradition in Russia of families with many children, but in issuing loans with minimal interest to young families, gender equalization of maternity leave, expansion of networks of children's organizations and really important benefits for large families.
And finally, who personifies all this?
In a country that in 2012 led the world ranking in terms of divorce rates (65013 applications for divorce were married to 1,213,000 married annually), the Day of Family, Love and Loyalty is symbolized by Peter and Fevronia, an absurd example of a marital union, whose sad history reflects what is actually happening today with a family in Russia. The beginning of the legend is known to everyone from school: a rich prince comes to a poor country girl to heal scabs, and she helps him by taking a promise in return to marry, but he still leaves a couple of sores as a pledge to return and not slip away. It looks like the topics of women's forums "How to keep a husband as a child" or even tips "How to seduce the rich", is not it? After marrying by blackmail, Fevronia later still divorces in order for both of them to become a monk, and before his death, the prince orders to find his former spouse and demands that she die with him one day, to which she agrees (voluntarily or not , history is silent).
The theme of domestic violence, which still does not figure as a separate topic in the legislation, and the theme of moral blackmail with money, children, and a common summer house, which both men and women practice, are suitable here as dramatic realities.By the way, Peter and Fevronia never had children, but they actually went through everything that modern families go through: prejudices on the subject of class inequality, deception with blackmail, divorce and subsequent reunion in a coffin as a final in the spirit of a horror film. A worthy symbol of family, love and loyalty, there is certainly nothing to say, and just as frightening as the prospects of this very family in Russia.
