How to properly care for fish in the aquarium?

A home aquarium is an impressive and even charming spectacle, of course, only if it is well cared for and replete with colorful underwater inhabitants.

Psychologists say that with a slow viewing of an aquarium, we relax and calm down, take a rest from everyday and everyday problems, thanks to unhurried and graceful movements of small fishes, all worries and troubles fade into the background. So, it turns out, a home aquarium - it's not only beautiful, but also useful!

Decorate the room

For some reason, some people formed the opinion that aquarium fish are the simplest and fastidious pets, they say, they do not require special attention, but experienced aquarists are well aware that this is not an easy and painstaking work that requires heightened assiduity and observation.

Home aquarium is a real underwater world, a small area of special microflora and fauna, which must be constantly maintained at the proper level.

That you could boast of a beautiful aquarium, as in the picture, in which healthy and happy fish are sporting, it will take a lot of effort, as well as a little understanding of its structure and the required conditions for keeping the underwater inhabitants. Even for a beginner lover, it is important to know how to care for aquarium fish, so that they not only survive, but also reach their real size, give offspring and delight you with their natural behavior.

Soothe the nerves

Most often, the aquarium in the house appears at the request of the younger members of the family, the parents go to the store and, often, there already make a couple of first mistakes. How to avoid them? We read further.

Choosing an aquarium and underwater inhabitants

Most often, choosing an aquarium for a beginner, we make the first big mistake: we get the smallest one, which can be found on the shelf of the pet store, by 20-30 liters, based on the opinion that at first it will be enough.

Are expensive

In fact, an aquarium for beginners should be at least 50-70 liters, it is in this amount to observe the biological balance of your underwater world will be much easier than in a small 20-liter "bank".It is this volume that will allow you to maintain a sufficiently large variety of fish that will stably grow and develop and, even, possibly, produce offspring.

Then the question arises, and what to put inside the aquarium? You need to start from the ground, without it the fish will be extremely uncomfortable in their new home. The best option would be small pebbles, ideally, if you can pick it up in size and even color, because the colorful fish, best of all, will look on the background of dark pebbles.

Cat entertainment

The fact that the soil becomes a substrate for the majority of underwater plants, in which they are rooting, feeding and reproduction, is also important. Take care of the plants - they should be enough so that calm types of fish can hide and rest in them from more active cohabitants.

It is best to choose natural plants, artificial ones, of course, look prettier and cause less hassle, but, from the point of view of maintaining a perfect microworld, natural ones are preferable.

Next, most importantly, underwater inhabitants. When settling your underwater world, it is important to consider the compatibility of the fish, so your aquarium will be easier to clean.First of all you need to look at the size: very large species will not get along with the small ones, because the latter risk being eaten by more aggressive cohabitants.

Beautiful girl

The most popular aquarium fish for many decades have remained vivipartes, that is, those that breed by already formed independent fry. Usually these fish are unpretentious in care, do not require any complicated schemes of feeding and reproduction, but, nevertheless, can please with its diverse shape, size and color.

The most popular inhabitants of a home aquarium are guppies, swordboys, mollies and pecilia. All these species require approximately the same conditions of care, get along well in the same aquarium and can please with a variety of impressive colors. Of the spawning fish, the most popular are catfish, in particular, speckled.

Also classics of the genre of many aquarists, steel cockerels and goldfish. It is a little more difficult to care for them, for example, than for guppies, and the traditional round aquarium, which is often used for such pets, is not suitable, rectangular and elongated aquariums are better suited.

The main points in the care of the aquarium

Remember that your home underwater world requires daily attention, which includes not only feeding, but support for the basic parameters of the habitat. To make the fish feel comfortable, be sure to monitor the water temperature, if necessary, turn on the heater.

The animals live well in the temperature range from 18 ° -28 °, however, if you want to achieve active reproduction of a particular species, the temperature regime must be set separately, in accordance with its narrow requirements.

Take care of the purity and hardness of the water, it should be clear, without any extra suspension, with a pH of about 6.5-8. Once a week it is necessary to replace 1/3 of all the water with fresh one, equal in temperature and hardness to the one that remained in the aquarium.

Take care that the filter is not clogged and the compressor works stably: with their help circulation and aeration of water in your underwater pool is carried out, some dissolved substances and harmful bacteria are removed.

Take care of the lighting: since most aquarium fish come from the tropics, the light day should be at least 10-12 hours. There are even special sockets-timers that regulate the mode of daylight in your absence.

Also require special care

Another important point - proper nutrition. It is usually produced 1-2 times a day for adults and up to 4 times a day if the fry live in an aquarium. It is difficult to answer the question how much feed will be needed for feeding, since the volumes are established exclusively by experience. In the feeder it is necessary to pour exactly the same amount of food as your inhabitants can eat for 5-10 minutes, and if something remains - the remains are important to remove, so that it does not decay and does not spoil the microflora.

Overeat fish is also undesirable, so do not overdo it. What kind of food to use depends on your underwater inhabitants, usually it is “dry” (dried daphnia or special dry mixes) or “live” (bloodworm or tubule). There are also frozen feeds - it's important to unfreeze them before you throw them into the aquarium.

Every day it is necessary to ensure that the condition of the fish does not worsen, with some suspicious symptoms, it is better to put the sick fish in “quarantine” and treat it there, so that others will not catch the disease, and there are a lot of them in aquarium inhabitants.

Be sure to track the appearance of rot or growths on the fins, strange bubbles and spots, the disease is still better to treat in the initial stages.

A full cleaning of the aquarium with the deposition of fish and the complete replacement of water, it is better to do no more than once every 3-4 months, although this may also depend on the volume of the aquarium and the species inhabiting it. Excessive passion for constantly thorough cleaning will not lead to anything good, because it is also harmful, as well as the very dirty aquarium.
